The Trudeau Early Intervention Program serves 300+ young children, many with autism or developmental needs. In recent years, they’ve experienced three drowning fatalities, a devastating reminder of how urgent this work is.
Children with autism are at a 160x higher risk of drowning, and drowning remains the #1 cause of death in this community. Most families have never received formal water-safety education, and Rhode Island currently has only one certified adaptive aquatics instructor.
